How hard is this claim to file?

In October 2023, hackers broke into Comcast's systems and stole customer personal information. Comcast publicly disclosed the breach in December 2023. Comcast is paying $117,500,000 to resolve this. If you got an individual breach notification, you can file for cash reimbursement of real losses, up to 5 hours of your time at $30/hour, or an Alternative Cash Payment — plus free Identity Defense and Restoration Services. The deadline is September 14, 2026. This claim form asks for 2 fields and 2 documents.

What the form asks

  • Out-of-Pocket Losses — List each expense and sign an attestation under penalty of perjury. Attach your Reasonable Documentation — credit card statements, bank statements, invoices, telephone records, or receipts. (Your financial records for costs tied to fraud, identity theft, credit monitoring, or credit freezes, starting October 16, 2023.)
  • Lost Time — Attest to the fraud, identity theft, or preventative steps you took and how many hours you spent on them (up to 5, in 15-minute increments). Include a short self-certified explanation of what you actually did. (Your own memory and any notes, calendar entries, or records from the time you spent dealing with the breach.)

Documents you'll need

  • Notification letter from Comcast (mailed around December 18, 2023)
  • Third-party documentation for out-of-pocket losses (credit card statements, bank statements, invoices, receipts)

Watch out for

  • Out-of-pocket losses and lost time combined are capped at $10,000 per person.
  • You get the higher of your approved out-of-pocket/lost time claim or the Alternative Cash Payment. You can't stack both.
  • All valid cash claims will be scaled up or down proportionally depending on how many people file.
  • Only costs incurred on or after October 16, 2023 are eligible.
  • If you filed an arbitration demand or notified Comcast you're represented for an arbitration claim related to this breach — and haven't signed a release — you're excluded from the settlement.
  • The claim deadline is September 14, 2026. There's no indication of extensions.
  • Identity Defense Services and Restoration Services are separate from the cash claim process.
