Google Assistant Privacy Settlement

Google settled a lawsuit over Google Assistant recording conversations it shouldn't have, or sharing those recordings with outside review vendors. If you bought a Google device between May 2016 and March 2026, or you were in a household where Assistant accidentally recorded you, you can file a claim by August 27, 2026.

Potential payment

Points-based allocation: Purchaser Class members receive 4 points per eligible Google-Made Device (cap of 3 devices, max 12 points); Privacy Class members receive 1 point. Final per-point dollar value unknown until claims close.

The settlement administrator hasn't published individual payout amounts yet. What you receive will depend on how many people file valid claims. Filing a claim is still worth doing — the deadline is August 27, 2026.

Who may qualify

There are two ways to qualify. First, you bought any Google-made device in the US between May 18, 2016 and March 19, 2026. Second, you used Google Assistant (or lived with someone who did) during that same period and your voice was captured by a 'false accept' — meaning the Assistant woke up when you didn't say 'Hey Google' — or your recordings were shared with a third-party review vendor.

Official eligibility wording

US residents who between May 18, 2016 and March 19, 2026 either (a) purchased a Google-Made Device (Google Home, Home Mini, Home Max, Nest Hub, Nest Hub Max, or Pixel smartphone), or (b) had communications recorded by Google Assistant as a result of a False Accept or disclosed to a third-party review vendor.

This summary is based on available official settlement sources. The settlement administrator determines eligibility and payment approval.

What you need

Submit a valid claim form at googleassistantprivacylitigation.com by August 27, 2026. Proof is optional — you can file without it.

How to file this claim

You must submit a valid Claim Form to receive any payment — doing nothing means no payment and you give up your right to sue Google separately. If you purchased an eligible Google-Made Device or had communications recorded via a False Accept, file a claim before the deadline.

  1. Confirm you are in the Purchaser Settlement Class (purchased a Google-Made Device in the US between May 18, 2016 and March 19, 2026) or the Privacy Settlement Class (communications recorded via a False Accept or disclosed to a third-party review vendor during the same period).
  2. Obtain a Claim Form at www.GoogleAssistantPrivacyLitigation.com or by calling 1-877-411-4704.
  3. Complete the Claim Form, listing each eligible Google-Made Device you purchased (up to three devices for maximum points) or identifying your Privacy Class membership.
  4. Submit your Claim Form online at www.GoogleAssistantPrivacyLitigation.com or mail it postmarked no later than the claim deadline to: Google Assistant Privacy Settlement, c/o A.B. Data, Ltd., P.O. Box 170500, Milwaukee, WI 53217.
  5. Keep a copy of your submitted claim and any confirmation for your records.

Watch out for

  • Doing nothing forfeits your right to any payment AND gives up your right to sue Google separately about these claims.
  • Only Google-Made Devices count for Purchaser Class points — other Google Assistant-enabled third-party devices do not qualify.
  • Purchaser Class points are capped at three eligible devices maximum, so listing more than three devices will not increase your allocation.
  • Mail submissions must be postmarked by the deadline, not merely sent — leave time for postal delays.
  • The per-point dollar value will not be known until after the claims period closes, so the final payment amount cannot be predicted when filing.

We prepare — you file on the official site yourself. This is not legal advice and is not an eligibility decision; the administrator and court decide.

What did Google actually do wrong?

The lawsuit alleged that Google Assistant sometimes activated and recorded conversations without being triggered intentionally (called 'false accepts'), and that recorded audio was shared with third-party vendors who reviewed it. Google agreed to settle without admitting wrongdoing.

I didn't buy a Google device myself, but I live with someone who has one. Am I covered?

Potentially yes. If you're a member of a Google Assistant user's household and your communications were recorded by a false accept or shared with a review vendor between May 18, 2016 and March 19, 2026, you're in the Privacy Settlement Class and can file a claim.

Do I need any paperwork or proof to file?

No, proof is optional. You can submit a claim without any documentation. If you do have something relevant — like a record of device purchase — you can include it, but it's not required.

When is the deadline, and what happens if I miss it?

The claim deadline is August 27, 2026. If you miss it, you won't receive any payment and you'll lose the right to sue Google separately over these issues.
