Equifax Duplicate Collection Accounts FCRA Settlement

Equifax has agreed to settle claims that it reported the same collection account more than once on certain consumer credit reports. If Equifax mailed you a Duplicate Reporting Letter in 2022, you may be able to claim a cash payment — and free credit monitoring comes automatically.

You may be eligible if you are a U.S. consumer identified by Equifax as having been mailed a Duplicate Reporting Letter — a letter Equifax sent to 37,651 people in August and September 2022 saying a duplicate collection account may have appeared on their Equifax credit file. Excluded are Equifax and its officers and affiliated entities, the judges overseeing the lawsuit and their immediate families and staff, and anyone who validly opts out. Payout: All Settlement Class Members receive complimentary access to the Equifax Complete credit monitoring product for six (6) months (valued at $59.70, with up to $500,000 in coverage for certain identity-theft-related out-of-pocket expenses) without filing a claim. Class members who file a claim affirming they were harmed by the duplicate reporting can receive a cash payment from a $2,200,000 Settlement Fund; the payment depends on how many valid claims are received and is expected to be up to $600.00. No proof of purchase is required to file. Claim deadline: September 1, 2026. Checked against the official settlement source by SettleSignal on August 30, 2026.
