Equifax Inquiry Dispute Class Action Settlement (Hines v. Equifax)
Court case: Hines v. Equifax Information Services, LLC, Case No. 1:19-cv-06701 (E.D.N.Y.) (resolving four related cases: Hines, Rivera, Oblack, and Neubauer v. Equifax Information Services LLC)
Equifax agreed to a $30 million settlement over claims it failed to reasonably investigate or remove disputed hard inquiries on consumer credit files under the FCRA. If Equifax's records show you mailed a dispute of a hard inquiry during the covered periods, you may file a claim for a cash payment. A claim form must be submitted by November 29, 2026.
Official eligibility wordingSettlement Class: all U.S. (and Territories) residents for whom (a) Equifax's records reflect it received a mailed letter disputing one or more hard inquiries between October 4, 2016 and March 27, 2026, the dispute was coded “not mine” (001) or “unauthorized” (383), and Equifax sent a document containing “Cons Comm 664” (the “Certified Group”); OR (b) Equifax's records reflect it received one or more dispute of a hard inquiry between August 31, 2021 and March 27, 2026 (the “General Dispute Group”). A New York Subclass covers certain NY residents sent a “Cons Comm 664” document between November 27, 2017 and September 10, 2024.
