Data-breach settlements typically compensate people whose personal information was exposed in a security incident at a company or service they used. Relief often takes two forms: reimbursement of documented out-of-pocket losses (such as fraud or time spent resolving identity theft), and a flat cash payment or credit-monitoring offer for anyone in the class.
